As someone who has lived in Slough their entire life, I am well acquainted with the disappointed frowns and weary grumbles over the state of the high street. I’ve seen shops come and go, heard of hopeful plans for renovations, only to quietly fall through and never be spoken of again.

Recently, the topic of culture has become a significant issue across the country. Some feel lost, others overshadowed, as the need to conform to one uniform identity rises. But having grown up in Slough, I often remember the different ways culture was embedded into mine and others lives, and this was most reflected through celebrating Cultural Days.
Nestled into the heart of Slough are the little seedlings of tea shops on Farnham Road, sprouting up with hints of flavourful masala blends. You’ll never be at a loss in discovering these chai cafes, sprucing up the busy road with their Instagram-worthy décor and mixing modern trends with traditional recipes.
August marked the return of another Results’ Day for students across the nation. A date that stirred a mix of excitement and dread. But as the month draws to a close, we find ourselves reminiscent and reflective. Slough, too, had its own moment; home to excellent schools and many brilliant young minds.
