The work’s dramaturgy is explored through the sub-culture context of this process, and made to transpose to the mainstream audience, so that the targeted sector’s perspective, aspiration and voice is heard widely. Based in the South East (Slough),  the Company regionally runs profession entry intensive kathak dance intensives, as well as  commission multi-disciplinary artists to make new work that it then tours through its development strand AKDC STUDIO.  Funded as an ACE NPO

Artswork is a charity that empowers children and young people through creativity, so they can build a better future – for themselves and others.

In Slough, they support young people, especially those facing challenges, to shape and deliver creative projects that make a lasting difference in their communities.

Since 2023, they’ve collaborated with schools, the council, local artists, and community groups across Slough to amplify young people’s voices, as well as offering training and mentoring opportunities that help them to develop skills that will support their futures.

Beat Routes

Beat Routes is a creative collective of local young people aged 13-25. Projects are shaped around heritage and modern subcultures, embracing the energy of new movements, styles and technologies as they evolve. Their program has weekly sessions for their youth choir, mindfulness, music and visual arts.

With in person meet ups and online sessions Beat routes provides the youth of Slough with a creative outlet, expressing themselves through music and connecting with the community.

Creative Academy

Creative Academy is Slough’s leading dance and musical theatre training company and vocational school. Creative Academy offers a wide range of academic and professional opportunities.

Offering practice-based industry standard training, alongside rigorous academic study, reflecting cultural diversity within the creative industry. The company offers students unique opportunities to learn, create, and showcase their talents.

Curve Venue

The Curve is Slough’s iconic library and cultural centre, right in the heart of the town. Over three storeys, The Curve houses a library, gallery and public exhibition space, Slough Museum pods and Curve Venue.

Curve Venue is a professional performance space in the heart of Slough, with theatre, comedy, family and community events for all ages.

Museums Partnership Reading

Slough Libraries, Slough Borough Council, Slough Refugee Support and Museums Partnership Reading are working together on ‘Everyone Welcome’ a series of activities and events for all in Slough, with a particular focus on new arrivals, refugees and asylum seekers.

As part of this they have held various creative workshops and community events within local libraries such as the Summer Reading Challenge, Chess for All and Flourish Creative Hubs for Children.

Resource Productions

Resource Productions is a not-for-profit social enterprise (Community Interest Company) based in Slough since 1999; they enable social change through art and film, whilst diversifying the creative industries.

They enable people who you don’t often see represented in mainstream media, to make art and films that will better reflect them, and to voice their views and challenge others’ opinions and attitudes of them.

They are able to do this through the four main projects that they run across the company:

Youth Engagement Slough – providing free activities for young people in the YES Space on Slough High Street.

Creative Collective – to run free workshops and events for adult aspiring artists and creatives ranging from writing to podcasting.

Screen Berkshire – to support adults into work in Film.

Berkshire Film Office – to provide locations, crewing and supplier services to professional Film & TV productions.

Salt Hill VR

Virtual Reality Arcade and Digital Skills Centre for VR, AR and AI. With dozens of virtual reality games to choose from in their state-of-the-art arcade. It is packed with the latest technology to deliver an immersive and realistic gaming experience.

Through its Digital Skills centre, Salthill VR also provides training and development opportunities for young people and individuals. Allowing people to develop essential skills through training and access to cutting-edge technology.

Slough Museum

Slough Museum Trust was founded in 1982 by a group of local people who wanted to create a Museum to share knowledge about local and general history, topography and archaeology of Slough and surrounding districts.

Their mission today is to build a sense of pride in Slough.  They develop imaginative and inclusive projects and displays and encourage people to share their stories and knowledge of Slough as a place of pioneers and innovators.

Srishti Yuva Culture

Srishti Yuva Culture (SYC), founded by Nina Rajarani MBE in 2006, is a charity dedicated to promoting South Asian dance and music with a focus on youth engagement (“yuva” meaning “youth”).

Building on Nina’s work since 1991 with Srishti Dance School and Srishti – Nina Rajarani Dance Creations, SYC specifically caters for those hard-to-reach, giving access to the arts to foster creativity, equality and diversity, while promoting health and emotional well-being.

Over 19 years, it has reached over 25,000 people, engaging 788 children and young people in the past 3 years alone through schools and community venues. Its inclusive, high-quality projects make classical Indian arts a vibrant part of community life. SYC also focuses on the talent development of aspiring dancers, nurturing their artistic development holistically; over 50 dancers have been mentored in this way over the years. 

The Arts Excite C.I.C

The Arts Excite C.I.C is a social enterprise that helps local disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential by giving them the confidence, training and experience needed to gain a career in the creative industry.

They deliver various programmes from creative workshops, educational art trips and we are piloting a photography club for young people. The social aim for their work is to hone and harness the creative talents of the young people, so they can be better equipped for the challenges of 21st century.

The Dionysus Ensemble

The Dionysus Ensemble (TDE) is a virtuosic chamber ensemble with a string quartet at its core, comprised of talented musicians from diverse backgrounds.

TDE has performed over 25 operas in venues all over the South East, The orchestra performs a wide range of repertoire, allowing the ensemble to explore intricate works with precision, passion, and flair.

They have several notable works including the Worlds first recordings of William Herschel’s Sonatas for Harpsichord, Violin & Violoncello. As well as ‘The Platinum Suite’ created for the Platinum Jubilee in 2022. It includes movements about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Caroline Herschel, and the ethnically diverse women of Slough (incorporating Indian, Punjabi & Polish traditional music ideas).

Together As One

Together As One was previously known as “Aik Saath.” It is committed to working with local young people from all faiths and backgrounds to make a positive difference in the community. They provide training, volunteering opportunities, youth work and creative projects.

They helped the youth of Slough take the lead on a diverse portfolio of community-based projects as well as arts and heritage projects, designed to build meaningful and lasting relationships between people in Slough’s communities.

Viva Slough

Viva Slough was set up in May 2020 with a mission to help people in Slough lead happier and healthier lives while changing negative perceptions of Slough. By creating meaningful work, volunteering and creative opportunities that benefit people and the local area.
