£25 million NHS Diagnostic Centre set to transform Healthcare in Slough.

Slough has always been a town that looks forward and the new £25 million Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Upton Hospital is a powerful example of that ambition in action. This landmark investment places Slough firmly at the forefront of modern, community-focused healthcare and gives residents something to feel genuinely proud of.

The new centre, delivered by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, is designed to make diagnostic care faster, more convenient, and closer to home. When fully operational, it will offer up to 150,000 additional diagnostic tests each year, covering MRI, CT, and ultrasound scans, blood tests, and checks for heart and lung conditions all under one roof.

The CDC’s modular construction means much of the building was pre-assembled off-site, reducing disruption, lowering waste, and speeding up the process. As construction continues, there is a growing sense of anticipation about what this new facility will bring. Completion is expected by early 2026, bringing a cutting-edge facility to the heart of the community.

James Clarke, Chief Strategy Officer at Frimley Health, described the project at the ground-breaking ceremony as “an exciting moment for the Trust and the people of Slough. The Slough CDC will play a vital role in addressing health inequalities by ensuring that diagnostic services are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live.” His words reflecting a sentiment that this centre is not just about buildings and equipment, but about confidence in the future of local healthcare.

Convenience is at the core of the centre’s design. Located just a 10-minute walk from Slough railway station and close to local bus routes, it will also provide on-site parking for patients. Operating seven days a week for up to 12 hours a day once opened, the centre offers flexibility for patients, allowing them to fit appointments around work or family commitments.

Local health leaders highlight that the CDC will reduce waiting times for essential tests, support earlier diagnosis of serious conditions such as cancer and heart disease, and ease pressure on nearby hospitals. Beyond the individual benefits, the centre represents progress for the whole town. It strengthens local services, supports NHS staff, and helps position Slough as a place where innovation and care go hand in hand.

The Community Diagnostic Centre stands as a symbol of what Slough can achieve when investment, vision and community come together. For patients, families and future generations, this is more than a new healthcare facility. It is a proud milestone in Slough’s journey towards a healthier, stronger future.
