The Curve thrives as a cultural and collaborative hub, celebrating community. The venue can be involved from a person’s birth all the way to the day they get married! It also recognises other significant milestones like securing citizenship, celebrated fortnightly alongside notable figures such as King Charles’ aides, the mayor and local councillors. Staff at the Curve cite the warmth of people’s reactions on these wonderful days with photos being taken of bright smiles and flowers exchanged as a means of gratitude.
While known for its eye-catching architecture, it is first and foremost our towns largest public library. With its wide variety of books catering to all ages, interests and passions, it would be extremely difficult to find nothing riveting amongst its diverse selection of genres. From children’s picture books and gripping novels, all the way to cook-books and travel guides, there’s always something to capture your imagination.
Their thoughtful selection extends further with specialist resources such as immersive sensory books, e-books with read-aloud functions and adjustable fonts, and curated packs tailored to different learning needs. No one is left out in sharing the joy of reading!
But the Curve offers more than an impressive library, space is home to numerous rich programmes that bring Slough’s community together. Programs like the All Roads, Slough Stories giving residents a chance to socialise while sewing. Adult learners can take advantage of workshops, intended to instil confidence as they learn new practical skills in a fun, open environment. From brushing up on English and maths to digital learning sessions, the Curve is committed to helping people get back into work and flourishing.
And for those undertaking gruelling exams, the availability of free Wi-Fi, accessible computers and copiers allows for your revision to be transferred to a setting that encourages productivity and constant support. Children are similarly engaged in a plethora of exciting activities through free membership to the library, helping to build fond and everlasting memories. This includes storytelling and LEGO® Club, as well as challenges like Summer Reading with over 1300 participants!
The Curve epitomises proudly the vibrant imagination inherent to Slough. Performances ranging from gritty comedies with creative sets to captivating storytelling, featuring songs and puppetry, fill the building with energy and laughter, inviting residents and visitors alike to cherish evenings with families and friends. A personal favourite of mine is their community-led event, Slough on the Mic. Listening to the raw passion and ingenuity in each talented act is so inspiring when considering those performing could be a stranger on the street, a next-door neighbour or a close friend. Individuality is integral to Slough and the Curve perfectly champions it with a stage and spotlight.
So whether you’re seeking knowledge, creativity or simply a welcoming place to belong, the Curve’s doors are always open!
